That's over for three years then...

In today's Chemical News and Intelligence

The six-week long dispute between the Finnish paper workers’ union Pappersförbundet and employer organisation Finnish Forest Industries Federation ended Friday, and the first paper mills could restart this afternoon.

The two parties settled their differences late Wednesday night, and their agreement was today approved by the union’s national council and the employer organisation’s executive committee.

Pappersförbundet said in a statement that, under the agreement, the operation of paper mills during midsummer and Christmas holidays would be compensated by fewer working hours. It said it rejected employers’ demands of unpaid sick leave and 12-hour working days without overtime pay.

Matti Vanhanen, Finland's prime minister called for a speedy resolution to the dispute on Monday this week.
